Scorchio Weekend Results

9 April 2017 - By Anita Grainger

On the hottest day of 2017 so far and a warm sunny weekend most people would have been dusting off their BBQs or heading to the beach and generally enjoying the sunshine.

Well I say most people clearly WRC are not most people, the club was represented across 7 different races from 10k up to marathon distance.

Conditions were tough out there so kudos goes to each and EVERYONE for their runs today and those out training or supporting.

On Saturday Terry Alabaster took part in the Downland link 20 mile Trail race in Compton, Bershire a hot and hilly race, finishing in 3 hours 43 which he was pleased with considering recent injuries.

Starting off the Sunday races was our crew down at the Brighton Marathon taking in the sunshine coast. A huge thanks go to our support crew of Rob Grimwood, Clare Morrison, Emma Sweeney, Mark Austin, Graeme Roberts, Tony Wallen, David Hill & Catherine, apologies for anyone I’ve missed.

Charlotte Elms was out first finisher home in a new PB and London marathon good for age time of 3.44.41. Close on her heals was Hayley Ellen in a new PB of 3.48.35. Next to finish was Brigid Wallen in time of 3.53.50 which is also a London marathon good for age time. Narrowly missing the 4 hour cut was Gerry Greenwold with a new pb of 4.05.14, followed by Mark Lynch in 4.25.02 and last but not least Becky Grimwood finished in 4.41.28. Unfortunately Dave Campbell made the tough decision to pull out after 17 mile but is ok & I’m sure he’ll come back stronger.

Continuing with Marathons Giles Sowerby and James Blackshaw took on the John Ray Trail Marathon. Giles finished first in 3.35.36 and James in 3.56.21.

In the half marathon camp Penny Clarke and Tracey Denby took part in the John Ray Trail Half Marathon finishing together in 3.23.10.

Dawn Shilling took part in her fourth half marathon from her challenge to complete 12 in 12 months. This time running the Grand Union Canal Half Marathon finishing in 2 hours 20 minutes.

Leo Cole took part in St Clare’s Hospice 10k in Hastingwood finishing 8th Overall and 1st MV50 in a time of 38.53 well done Leo!

Lastly 16 WRC members took part in the Little Bromley 10k this time is was David Hunt’s turn to shine in the Hunt Household being the only WRC runner to get a PB at Little Bromley today. Thanks to Steve Hennings and Gavin for your photography. Colsey’s good form continues leading the cat and mouse games with Anita at present, not looking back after passing her around the 2k mark.
