September 2026 CMOTM
23 October 2026 - By Steven Alder

A busy month for nominations in September, but a huge congratulations to Giles Sowerby who is our CMOTM. He was nominated for breaking his half marathon PB not once but twice in the month of September – his 6th PB this year! At Pleshey he achieved a PB and Essex Silver and then breaking that PB a week later at Copenhagen. An incredible achievement for an experienced runner to be setting so many PBs – a lot of hard work, dedication and always wearing a smile too!
Well done to our other nominees for September:
- Irina Ashdown – For her amazing half marathon PB at the Shoreditch, during her marathon training block. For her dedication to training and self-improvement all with a smile on her face. A regular member at Tuesday and Thursday sessions and just an all-round lovely person. Her running has come a long, long way in less than two years.
- Stam Katsimis – For completing his Gold Standard with a PB at Pleshey.
- Karen Pickering – For her fab performance at the tough Mersea Round the Island race, where she was First Lady.
- Matt Jordan – For his monumental achievement taking on and completing the Bob Graham Round. The Bob Graham round is a 66-mile challenge across the Lake District, taking in 42 summits and around 27,000ft of ascent – all within 24 hours.
- Adam Regan – For running hard throughout the year and completing his ninth marathon in nine months this year.
- Heydon Mizon – for his recent Ironman Italy endeavours. Heydon became another of WRC’s growing Ironman contingent after competing in Ironman Italy which took place in Emilia Romagna. As always, Heydon showed immense hard work and discipline in his training. He completed the swim/bike/run in an overall time of 11 hours and 21 minutes which included an amazing marathon time of 3:34:56! Heydon’s write up of the race and his exploits on the bike section in particular is a great read covering pothole blowouts, tumbles, puncture repairs, scrounging parts and even some extra miles barefoot running. Completing an Ironman is one thing but doing so after the problems he endured was beyond commendable.
- Anita Grainger – Anita represented Team GB in her age group in Pontevedra, Spain at the World Championship Triathlon Finals where she competed in the Aquabike event (swim 1500m & bike 40k) which she completed in 2:11:16. She also squeezed in representing WRC in our ladies team the weekend before at the Cross-Country Relays at Epping Forest, an event which typically kicks off the cross-country season.
- Clare Boston – She swam the English Channel as part of a team with two massive 3,000yd plus legs. While maintaining her swim preparedness and waiting for a window and green light, after a previous start was called off, she represented WRC with a long leg in the Essex Way Relay also helping out with marshal duties before her leg started at Cressing.
