Results 26/7/26

Another busy and varied week of racing, with members taking on 5ks, narrative trails, multi-lap endurance events and a 50-mile ultra.

Huffer Puffer

In the first of 2 MEC events last week, we had several groups of runners out. I think (courtesy of AI) that the distance for this was meant to be 5.8 miles, but it’s hard to say as the Stravas I could track were all quite different! (no one submitted a result – I only saw  this as I was looking for the Scouting results)

  • Karen Pickering finished in 9th overall and 2nd lady, at what I think was the correct distance, in 54:22
  • Andrew & Clive Smith, and Fiona Collins ran approx. 7 miles in 1hr 25
  • Steven Alder, Angela Read, Clarice and Dawn ran about 4 miles in 1hr 9 mins

Well done everyone, I think!

Harwich 5K Series – Race 5 (of 5)

  • Dawn Shilling completed the fifth race in 28:43, finishing as 5th lady in the series.
  • Adam Hocken finished in 23:57, and completed all 5 races in the series.

Well done, both!

Montane Lakeland 50 (miles)

Gaz Arnold completed the Montane Lakeland 50 ultra in a massive PB of 9:38:50, taking more than 80 minutes off his previous best. Gaz finished 33rd out of around 1,400 finishers and 11th in the MV40 category. Very well done!

Finish Line Frolic

This was a 6 hour lapped event, hosted by Hare & Tortoise.

Based on prior experience of these events, runners can enter either the 6 hour “run as many laps as you can” option, or opt for a specific distance upon entry. This makes for some fairly confused results as, by my calculations, Beth should have finished 2nd lady in the marathon, but because she entered the 6 hours, it’s not showing that way

ANYWAY, here are the published results:

  • Ian Cuthbert ran 8 laps (approx. 27 miles), in 5:47:55, and assisted Beth in completing her first trail marathon.
  • Beth Pullen also ran the 8 lap marathon (plus) distance, in 5:47:56, making her 6th female in the overall 6 hour table.
  • Chrissy Israel ran 5 laps in 3:33:28
  • Ross Silverton entered the half marathon distance (4 laps), which he completed in 2:53:01
  • Lysia Jiggins entered the 10K, which she ran in 1:27:48, making her 5th lady in the 10k event.

Dunton 10K

Shane Ketteridge was our only representative at the hilly Dunton 10K, which he completed in 1:11:20.

MEC Scouting Trail

There were 2 distance options for this MEC narrative trail – 10k or HM.

  • Terry Alabaster completed the 10k in 55:58, finishing joint 2nd.
  • Dean Whittaker chose the secret third distance of just over 9 miles, which he completed in 1:27:40.

Well done to everyone who competed over the last week, and thanks as always to the result submitters, who make my job a lot easier!

A small PS: I still haven’t seen any formal Essex results for last week’s Arthur Whiston 5 mile. Not sure what the hold up is, but will update the relevant results post as soon as I’m able.
