Harwich Triathlon

18 June 2018 - By Colin Short

I arrived in Harwich and the weather was ideal, cloudy and a nice temperature. That was to change for as soon as the briefing started it began to rain! Still you get wet in the pool so no problem! The race began at 9.10 but I wasn’t due off till 10.30 so a bit of a wait. There were a lot of first timers competing and you could see that for some of them swimming wasn’t their thing but good on them for participating. I completed the swim leg just 9 secs over my predicted time. On exiting the pool to transition it had stopped raining but it was cold. The bike leg is reasonably flat but there were a couple of stamina sapping hills to keep you on your toes so to speak! Half way round the sun came out which boded well for the run. On exiting transition for the run my legs were like jelly for about half a mile but once I hit the prom I settled down and had a decent run although the Garmin measured it slightly short at 4.75k! I was aiming to complete the tri in 1.30.00 and got under that by 48 seconds so a good day all round. Oh yes I almost forgot I won the 70+ age group!
300m swim 7.09
T1 2.21
24k bike 53.03
T2 1.24
5k run 25.15
Total 1.29.12

Colesy that’s amazing! Well done you! (Don’t believe you’re in the 70+ age group – did you fib so you could win it?) 🙂
