XC Relays 2022

1 September 2022 - By Ben O'leary

It’s almost time to start getting excited for the cross country (XC) season, which normally kicks off around November (when the chances of mud and cake are at the highest county-wide). I’ll post out some more details on cross country for our newer (or more forgetful) members in due course.

In the meantime, the 24th September 2022 brings us the Essex XC Relays! This is generally seen as the curtain raiser to the XC season, and will give everyone a chance to experience the ultimate in off-road running, where you aren’t racing the clock you’re racing the terrain and the runners in front and behind you. Not to mention having a jolly good time cheering each other on.

Note that the day will be much shorter (and the temperature lower!) than Ekiden, with finish times expecting to be max 2 hours, so we should be all done by 1pm!

If you’re up for it, sign up at the bottom of this posts and we’ll coordinate team assignments. If you want to rally your running buddies and enter as a whole team, just drop Ben or Liz a message on Facebook with the names.

Important details:

  • Date: 24th September
  • Time: Senior race at 11:00 after the junior races
  • Location: WEALD COUNTRY PARK, BRENTWOOD, ESSEX, CM14 5QS
  • Leg length: 6km
  • Hosted by: Billericay Striders on behalf of Essex AA
  • Cost: WRC will cover the costs of team submissions
  • Website: https://essexaa.activetrainingworld.com/tc-events/essex-cross-country-relays/

Teams can be made up in three ways, note there are no age categories:

  • Senior Men – team of 4
  • Senior Women – team of 3
  • Senior Mixed – 2 men and 2 women

Unfortunately there a restriction, which may affect some of us:

  • The event is only open to UKA/EA licence holders

This should only affect a minority of people, but if you’re unsure feel free to get in touch.

Your team captains,

Ben & Liz
