parkrun – 25/07/2026

The Witham RC members attended parkruns at Chelmsford Central, Walton Promenade, Markshall, Great Notley, Southwark, Thomas Mills, Maldon Prom, Penrose, Hove Promenade, Anacostia (USA), Kesgrave, Mersea Island and ARU Writtle.

Karen Pickering was the quickest female parkrunner this week, travelling to Kesgrave in Suffolk to complete the course in 21:31. Jamie Marlow was our quickest parkrunner of the week, completing Maldon Prom in 20:05. Jamie was followed by Andrew Lager (00:22:05 & 1st VM50-54), Dean Whittaker (00:22:14), Nadia McLeod (00:26:18), Simon Parsons (00:30:31), Chrissy Israel-Jones (00:31:17), Ian Cuthbert (00:31:17), Ross Silverton (00:32:30) and Joe McEwan (00:38:33). Steve Hookings was a Marshal this week at Maldon Prom.

Over at Chelmsford Central we had Andrew Smith (00:21:29), Lee Tooey (00:23:19), Chris Beazeley (00:25:55) and Nichola Beazeley (00:30:13). Elsewhere in Essex was Keith Taylor (00:29:00) at Great Notley, Simon Handley (00:29:17) and Nicola Digby (00:32:32) at ARU Writtle whilst at Walton Promenade was Adam Hocken (00:25:53) and Michael Poulter (00:37:02).

Markshall parkrun welcomed Ian Lucas (00:31:25), Angela Read (00:48:10) and Dawn Shilling (00:48:11), who were supported by Andrew Read on Finish Tokens and Patrick Hinchliffe as Timekeeper. A couple of Townsends went off to Hove Promenade, with Scott finishing in 25:50 and Kerry in 34:14. Anita Grainger could be found at Southwark, with a time of 27:22.

The mega tourists of the group saw Geoffery Reddin (00:24:24) in Suffolk at Thomas Mills parkrun, whilst Steven Alder (00:26:48) nipped over to Washington DC to complete Anacostia parkrun. Christine Wager (00:32:31) was at Penrose whilst over at Mersea Island parkrun we had Daniel Griffiths (00:22:25), Jon Shippey (00:30:38), John Flowers (00:32:10), Bethany Shippey (00:40:48) and Sue Shippey (00:40:49).

Markshall parkrun

As Markshall parkrun are a popular local event of ours, I thought I’d share a post that they’ve written on their News section which can be found here: “Important Statement from Markshall CEO”. Markshall parkrun has highlighted concerns about a small minority of participants (this is a general reminder and is not aimed at Witham RC members), including speeding (in the car, not the runners), misuse of facilities and poor treatment of staff, which is putting the future of the event at risk. It’s been agreed to reopen toilets as a goodwill gesture, but continued access depends on everyone showing respect for the venue, volunteers, staff and facilities.
