Witham Running Club Members Kick off the Tri Season
22 May 2016 - By James Montgomery
Two WRC members, James Kennerley and Liz Stuckey, were in triathlon action over the weekend at very different venues around the country.
On Saturday James competed in the Eton Dorney Super Sprint Triathlon which has traditionally marked the start of the Triathlon season.
Held at the Eton Dorney Olympic venue on a windswept course comprising of 400m swim 21.2km bike and 5km run (although the consensus among the competitors was that the run was approx 150 metres longer than regulation) James showed a glimmer of a return to form by posting a respectable 1:15:34 knocking over 6 minutes off his PB at this distance and placing within the top 20 of his category. Perhaps with a bit more running training a top 10 finish may beckon next year!
Split times as follows:
Swim: 7:07
T1: 1:57
Bike: 39:18
T2: 1:40
Run: 25:32″
A little further away from home, Liz took part in the Southport Triathlon.
The 1500 meters swim leg took place in the shallow, but cold and murky waters of a marina and the resulting cold hands and feet made for a challenging transition. The 40 kms bike leg was over a 2-lap out and back course into a strong headwind for half of each lap, but the hard work meant there was some fun to be had for the other half!
On to the run leg and now in her element, Liz was catching up with some of those ahead of her and in doing so posting one of the fastest runs in her age group, finishing with an excellent 2hrs 46 mins 23 secs overall time.
Split times:
Swim: 34:20
T1: 3:41
Bike: 1:20:27
T2: 2:46
Run: 45:04
Well done to both James and Liz!
If you are taking part in a triathlon, don’t forget to send me your results and a story or two.
