Weekend Race Report

14 May 2017 - By Steve Hennings

Thursday night was the 2nd Tiptree Road Runners Handicap 5k event. Only 3 locals tackled the fairly flat 5k course over at Maldon which is part of the series held by our friends at Tiptree RR.

All three had a great run, but most notable was James Crisp who went below the 18 minute barrier for the first time!

James Crisp 17:54 PB
Andrew Lager 19:03
Geoff Reddin 22:54
Andrew White 27:19
Brigid Lager 31:42

Saturday saw the first of the Essex Cross Country 10k Series in Hylands Park, with 6 club members turning out:-

Chris Alabaster – 0:47:22

Terry Alabaster – 0:48:16

Gerry Greenwold – 0:50:33

Ross Silverton – TBC

Angela Manley – 0:53:30

Victoria Levine – 1:03:31

It was a warm Sunday for the WRC posse across Essex. Not quite as stifling as the same day last year, but the rise in temperatures are always a bit of a shock to the system.

The Colchester 10k over at Abbey Fields took place with three members taking part on this fast and flat course:-

Dave Campbell 00:39:09
Andy Notley 00:46:21
Shawn Beckerleg 00:47:26

It was also a Club Champs race in Chelmsford, with the Baddow 10 doing it’s annual best to be a hilly and hot misery fest (or maybe that was just my impression!).

Hard men, Gerry Greenwold & Ross Silverton turned out for their 2nd race of the weekend.

It all got a bit emosh for the soon to be Mrs Mark Austin in her last race as a “Sweeney”, crossing the line holding hands with her best buds Jo and Tracey to be given exactly the same time!

Big thanks to Sue Smith who did her best to pop up around virtually every corner shouting encouragement!
