Quintet venture round Hatfield Forest hoohaah

19 June 2016 - By Anita Grainger

On a beautiful summer’s day with a sunny warm forecast, 5 members headed off to Hatfield Forest to take part in the 10k trail race which concludes the hoohaah 10k series of 3 races . Sue Smith and Andy White have completed all 3 and received a well-earned hoody each for their efforts. The race takes in a lot of the perimeter of the national trust site including a section along the flitch way. The course is undulating starting at the lake centre of the forest and heading across the fields to near the entrance. Then follows an uphill section towards the flitch way where the shade of the tree lined route was extremely welcome. Just before 5k the route heads back along the opposite side of the site through a clearing to the water station before heading through the forest into the last of the very welcome shade and respite from the sun although muddy in places. Just after 7k we emerged out into the beautiful sunshine again, well beautiful if you were out for a stroll in the sun, not so nice 7k into a trail race. The course then weaved along the western side of the forest back towards the lake for the finish. Anita definitely felt the effects of yesterday’s track session here and was caught by Andy in the last km and although she crossed the finish line first Andy clocked the quicker chip time by a few seconds, well done Andy! I definitely don’t recommend attempting a race the day after a speed session! Our new members Paul & Michelle English kept it in the family being the first man and lady home Paul with a time of 46:29 and Michelle 55:33. Well done everyone in today’s heat, full results below.
