Weekend results – cold, wet, windy conditions didn’t stop us!!!
7 March 2017 - By Marc Underdown
The early part of Sunday morning was horrible, as a cold biting wind combined with a steady drizzle made conditions uncomfortable to say the least. Emma Sweeney and myself found running the 2km junior parkrun with our respective children enough, so the idea of being out in the weather for several hours was no doubt unappealing.
However with a circular course, the wind has to help as much as it hinders, and as I’ve said before cold conditions can be conducive to quick endurance race times. The rain? – just means you get wet!
Despite these conditions, we had a good number of runners taking part in the Essex 20, mostly as build up to a spring marathon. There are some amazing times, with a number of PB’s achieved based on what I’ve seen on Strava. Not only PB’s, but a club record was beaten as Vicky Hunt lowered her own record further with an excellent run. Well done to everyone – all the times are below.
Three runners also traveled up to Cambridge for a half marathon. No doubt the conditions were equally as miserable, so a big well done to Bill Smythe (1:37:39), David Toombs (1:58:49) and Jo Smythe (2:04:43).
