Downland link 20 mile trail race
8 April 2017 - By Terry Alabaster
Today I competed in the above race held in Compton Berkshire.
It didn’t start too well in as much that a couple of miles from Compton there was a road closure meaning a detour. Instead of getting there 9 for a 10 start I got there at 9.25. I was entering on the day so it was a bit if a rush.
The course was undulating with a few climbs to 500-600 feet which were tough. It was also very hot. I finished in 3.43.
Considering I had not run from august to the new year and had not run more than 5/12 miles since I was particularly pleased to have finished.
I do recognise that running the distance on the terrain that I did on little training and still having niggles is not the best idea. I would only do so because I have ran many races off-road and know the difficulties that they pose.
If you are new to long distance racing make sure you do sufficient training to prepare.
