53-12 Results Race 3 Colchester – WRC nudged into 3rd ( for now :))
27 November 2017 - By Anita Grainger
On yet another bright crisp sunny morning for XC 37 WRC members ran in race 3 of the 53-12 series. The team had moved up into equal 2nd with Colchester Harriers after a fabulous performance at Harwich at the beginning of the month. Sunday’s route at Abbey fields is probably one of the most uninteresting of the XC routes but is also a good place to debut and it was good to see Elizabeth Prior an Brigid Lager running their 1st Cross country for the club.
It was great to see Mark Finbow back and Dave Campbell rested after his holidays. Mark chased the first 2 runners round with great determination and was narrowly pipped into 4th at the finish and his highest finishing position. In the ladies we were missing a few of the regular scorers however that seemed to spur Charlotte Elms into her first top 10 position finishing 8th and thanks should also go to Nik Bainbridge & Paul Thomas for pacing Charlotte round & trying to keep up with her and to Tony Wallen who Charlotte went past towards the end. Tanya Nash also had a storming race completing an unofficial 5mile PB and thanks to Gerry Greenwold for supporting her. This shows how non-scoring runners play a key role in helping the success of the team as a whole.
This time it was the men who supported the team overall finishing in 3rd with the ladies 5th. What we lost in the ladies points we made up for in the mens showing this is a true team effort. Overall WRC came 3rd and is now 3rd in the league by only 1 point, yes only 1 point behind Colchester so it’s definitely still all to play for at the midway point in the league!
Thanks to our baking team of Elizabeth Prior, Bill Smythe, Vicky Hunt & Sue Smith and to the finishing management team of Liz Stucky, Theresa Montgomery, Wendy Martin and Anita for making sure all the tokens were collected and the score sheets went in. Photos are in the gallery.
Full results below. Well done everyone!
The next race is on Sunday 10th December over at Gosfield for a run through the woods on my favourite course
