WRC Summer Virtual 5k, 10k & Rogue Running Front Door 5k

Witham Running Club Summer Virtual 5k Series

Following on from the popular Social Distancing Championships, we are looking to organise a new series of time trials over the next 3 months.

In an attempt to fill the void of the Summer 5k series, we are going to run a series of 3 races where the aim will be to improve your 5k time from Race 1 to Race 3.  We will also focus the Thursday Speed Development Sessions on improving speed over shorter race distances such as 5k to 10k.

Speed-endurance is a valuable asset for all runners from short distance to ultra marathons so all runnners can benefit from training and racing over 5k-10k even if this is not their best distance.

We will also offer the option of a 10k race in the middle of the series for those that want to test themselves over a different distance.

Rogue Running Front Door 5k

For those looking for some international competition, we are also linking up with Rogue Running in Austin Texas and offering members the chance to enter as part of a Witham Running Club team into their “Front Door 5k” series.  They are also running a 5k race on the same dates as us with awards, prizes and a hat for all entrants at a cost of $30 per entrant.

The dates for the races are as follows and members can enter only the WRC competition or both WRC and the Rogue Front Door 5k:

Race 1 – 5k
May:   Sunday 24th – Saturday 30th (5k)
Race 2 – 5k or 10k
June:  Sunday 21st – Saturday 27th (5k or 10k*)
Race 3 – 5k
July:   Sunday 18th – Saturday 25th (5k)

*10k option is for WRC only and not part of the Rogue Front Door 5k

For those intending on entering the WRC Virtual 5k only, you only need to run your 5k and submit your result afterwards as in previous time trials but please note:

  • You will need to run the same 5k course, at least for Race 1 and 3, in order that improvement can be measured fairly.
  • We recommend an out-and-back or looped course where you start and finish at roughly the same place in order to ensure that your 5k time is as close as it can be to representing what you would achieve in a race.

For those that are interesting in participating in the Rogue Front Door 5k series, please note:

  • You will need to run the same 5k course for all 3 races in order that improvement can be measured fairly.
  • We recommend an out-and-back or looped course where you start and finish at roughly the same place in order to ensure that your 5k time is as close as it can be to representing what you would achieve in a race.
  • The entry fee is $30 for the series with all proceeds going to Rogue partner charities.
  • Everyone who completes all 3 races will receive a free hat, however, for the delivery option please select “Pickup at Austin training location”. I have arranged that they will bulk ship all hats to us in one go in order to reduce the additional charge of $15 per person for international shipping.
  • There will be several individual and team challenges as well as some raffles along the way, so make sure to give each race 100%.
  • Results need to be input within 1 week after the last day of each race window; results input link will be sent after registration.

To register for the Front Door 5k, click the below link and select “Witham Running Club (Scott Darney)” from the drop down list of teams and select Go.  I am already registered as WRC (even though I am also part of their online training group).
