Essex Way relay 1st Sept – runners still needed

6 August 2019 - By Bill Smythe

This year the Essex Way relay will be on 1st September. This is a 10 leg relay from Epping to Harwich crossing our lovely countryside.  The relay is made up of 10 stages of various distances.  See below. The race is run as a relay but there is no handover to the next runner and scores are done on finishing places so there is no pressure to get to the finish before a set time. The Essex Way is a fantastic scenic route and follows fairly well defined paths. The course is not marshalled but instructions are available from the Essex Way website. A recce of the route is recommended.

Please let me know if you wish to run by entering through the link on the web site.

STAGE 1 EPPING – CHIPPING ONGAR 7.5 miles
STAGE 2 CHIPPING ONGAR – GOOD EASTER 9.5 miles
STAGE 3 GOOD EASTER – LITTLE LEIGHS 9.5 miles
STAGE 4 LITTLE LEIGHS – CRESSING 10.1 miles
STAGE 5 CRESSING – GREAT TEY 9.4 miles
STAGE 6 GREAT TEY – WEST BERGHOLT 5.7 miles
STAGE 7 WEST BERGHOLT – DEDHAM 11.2 miles
STAGE 8 DEDHAM – BRADFIELD 8.0 miles
STAGE 9 BRADFIELD – RAMSAY 5.3 miles
STAGE 10 RAMSAY – HARWICH LIGHTHOUSE 5.5 miles

We will also be looking after leg 5 from Cressing and I will need some volunteers please to record runners as they depart and arrive and to provide some water at the finish.

Hi Bill, I am happy to run one of the shorter distances (6 miles or less as I haven’t done longer distances in quite a while) if runners are needed for these legs. Alternatively I am happy to volunteer.

Bill I’m happy to run any of the leg as needed?

    Bill,
There are 8 names listed on the link. How do we know who wants to do what leg?
I would be interested in running but would like to know what is still available.
    Regards,
    Peter.

Hi Peter, the running order is not yet finalised. Let me know if you would like a specific leg or distance.

  6. Ross Silverton says:

Hi Bill – Please can you put me down for the Great Tey to West Bergholt Leg. I am running a 10k in the morning at Takeley so the 2pm start at Great Tey would be good for me. Is there anyone else from Witham running this leg as I need to car share so I can get a lift back to Great Tey – Many Thanks, Ross
