Thursday August 5th Speed Development Session – Egyptian Hills

1 August 2021 - By Karen Flowers

This Thursday is one of my favourite sessions and venues. It first trialled 2 years ago with much success

The venue is at Beeleigh Abbey in Maldon. The venue is lovely and quiet with only a couple of houses at the end of the lane, so very few cars

Hills are a key session for building strength and stamina and will stand you in good stead for the upcoming ultra-trails & race season as well as X-Country as we hope to see everything return to some sort of normality

This is a rural location where we use lampposts situated on the hill, as markers. Each lamppost is about 50m apart making each effort longer than the previous

There are 10 lampposts altogether

We will meet in the Tesco Maldon car park near the Click and Collect by 7:15pm. The slightly earlier start time due to the 1.2 mile jog along the river to the location

Session Overview

  • Out to the first lamppost at tempo (Tuesday night pace) or 10k pace
  • Recovery jog back down the hill to return to the start
  • Then repeat the above 2 steps to the next lamppost

Whichever lamppost you get to after the first 15 minutes you will then repeat to return back down the pyramid with your efforts getting shorter until you return back to the first

Don’t forget to bring a drink to hydrate for before and after the session

Look forward to seeing you
