Coaching Update – Summer and Autumn Schedule and NEW Sessions

31 July 2020 - By Scott Darney

Hi All,

I hope everyone is keeping fit and healthy?

I just wanted to provide you with a brief update on where we are with coaching and what we have planned for the next few months now that the current schedule has come to an end.

With regards to the return of the Thursday group training sessions, we are not quite there yet but we are looking into where, when and how we can bring everyone back together again. We will need a little time to consider the logistics and perhaps hold a test session in order to ensure we are meeting all requirements and provide a Covid secure session. Please bare with us but in theory these could return soon.

As for the trainig schedule for the next few months, you will be pleased to hear that we have decided to have a break from the time trials. Personally, I think they are great for building mental strength but every 1-2 weeks can also be mentally draining! Plus it gives us a chance to sit back and enjoy the Olympics…

Instead, we will focus on training but in a brand new format with some new (and old) sessions that I think will be highly enjoyable.

I have been contacting professional coaches, athletes and influential figures in my own coaching journey to put together a schedule of their favourite workouts which I will be using.

Each week I will post a workout from an athlete or coach and provide some information on them and their achievements, influences etc. This will mean you get to try some of the favourite sessions from athletes and coaches that do this for a living and compete at the highest level.

Rest assured:

  • The sessions will, like all speed development sessions, either be suitable for everyone or have options for the various levels within the club.
  • The sessions will all be suitable for either solo training or for when we are back training in groups.

The picture at the top will give you some insight into who will feature in August although the series will kick off next week with a coach who is perhaps not a household name at WRC but one that you may come to learn and love.

The session schedule has been updated below with the name of the first guest session and the remaining name will be updated periodically.

I look forward to sharing these workouts and great athletes and coaches with you and hope that you enjoy the sessions.

As usual, any feedback or comments or suggestions welcome. Feel free to contact me or the coaching team or respond to the Facebook post.

Keep running.

Scott
