Race Results W/E 30/06/19

1 July 2019 - By Jason Lilley

Not content with the weather at home at the moment, James Blackshaw has taken to the Balearics for some even warmer marathon training, so I am standing in with the results for a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately I didn’t have time to do the Awful Pun Training Course that JB laid on for me, but I’m sure he’ll make up for that when he gets back.

Farmhouse Frolic

Kicking off the results this week is Terry Alabaster, who ran the Farmhouse Frolic on Thursday. This is a 6.2 mile trail run organised by Essex Trail Events. Terry completed the course in 53:16 and says the instructions provided were excellent, making the navigation a breeze.

Springfield Striders Friday Night Five

Eight made the trip to Pleshey on Friday evening to put in some great times on this popular five mile road race.

Place Name Time
19 Pete Riley 30:26
29 Simon Cresswell 32:14
54 Daniel Griffiths 37:19
71 Rach Pearsons 40:50
78 Ross Silverton 42:39
86 Karen Flowers 45:02
89 Sue Shippey 45:45
96 Beth Shippey 51:06

Horndon on the Hill 10k

A solo Ross Silverton took on the hot weather (and presumably, the hill!) on Sunday in this race hosted by the Thurrock Harriers.  Ross came home in 56:43 – a great result, especially considering the conditions and the demanding nature of the course.

Nayland 10k

The Nayland 10k is a mixed terrain run with an emphasis on the environment and sustainability. Three WRC members braved the stifling heat and earned a smart wooden medal for their efforts.

Place Name Chip Time
14 Damien Walsh 45:27
Jordan Barker 51:07
270 Karen Flowers 1:07:21

North Downs Way 30k

Not one to rest on his laurels, Terry Alabaster also ventured to Gravesend on Sunday to run the North Downs Way 30k. The race is described by the organisers as ‘hilly’ and ‘challenging’ and that is before you take into account the brutal heat of the weekend. Terry finished in a scorching 03:39:17 and no doubt is still cooling down today.

Strava and Garmin seemed to have a bit of a meltdown at the weekend, so I’m sure I’ve missed a few of you. If you can’t see your result, please let me know.

Thought for the day: Don’t trust children; they’re here to replace us.
