parkrun – 19/09/2026

The parkruns done were this week (including 3 international locations) were ARU Writtle, Maldon Prom, Walton Promenade, Mile End, Chelmsford Central, Christchurch Park, Saddle River County (USA), Amager Strandpark (Denmark), Harwich, Wickford Memorial, Hackney Marshes, Thurrock, Orsett Heath, Great Notley, Amager Fælled (Denmark) and Brynaman.

Locations over in Denmark, ready for the Super Half in Copenhagen, were Amager Strandpark with Giles Sowerby (19:15) and Amager Fælled parkrun with Shane Ketteridge (32:06). Whilst over in USA was Steven Alder (28:00) at Saddle River County and in Wales was Daniel Griffiths (23:00) completing Brynaman.

Other bits of touring outside of Essex included Dawn Shilling (31:03) at Mile End, Ian Lucas (27:55) at Christchurch Park and Nicola Digby (51:15) at Hackney Marshes.

Looking closer to have, Leo Cole (21:16) was at ARU Writtle whilst Ross Silverton (31:01) and Lisa Leader (31:59) went to Chelmsford Central. Wickford Memorial saw Lee Tooey (21:16) whilst Thurrock had duo Sian Tate (26:53) and James Attenborough (26:53).

Maldon Prom was popular this week, with Dean Whittaker (23:35), Peter Banks (24:04), Geoffery Reddin (24:35), Claire Lucas (25:53), Steve Hookings (26:01), Chris Beazeley (26:41), Alan Cutler (26:45), Nichola Beazeley (28:34), Christine Israel (30:13), Ian Cuthbert (30:14) and Joe McEwan (48:57). Andrew Lager and Dean Whittaker were this week’s Barcode Scanners.

On the coast at Walton Promenade was a good turnout of Adam Hocken (24:59), Angela Read (29:57 course PB), Andrew Read (30:26 course PB) and Michael Poulter (35:20), with Karen Pickering (20:47) nearby in Harwich.

Finally, over at Great Notley we had Simon Parsons (25:45), Karen Flowers (29:49), Jon Shippey (32:28), John Flowers (32:28) and Mike Struthers (32:46).

parkrun Boomerangs

Have you heard about the unofficial mascots from parkrun Australia? The adventure began on June 15, 2024, with ten original boomerangs launched at South Beach parkrun in Western Australia. Each week, a temporary custodian (runner, walker, or volunteer) takes charge of a boomerang, brings it along to their local 5k event, and then passes it on to a new person. Holders take photos of the boomerang with local landmarks, club groups, and fellow runners during the week. Batches 11-20 were then released in July 2025 due to their popularity. More info can be found on their Facebook Group. Locations of where they’ll be appearing next can be found in the Parkrace app – B16 appearing in London at Greenwich Peninsula next time on the 26th September.
