Your club needs you

10 January 2019 - By Marc Underdown

It’s a new calendar year, which means we are approaching the end of the club year.

The end of club year is marked by two important events, the celebratory presentation evening (23rdFebruary) and the Annual General Meeting (27th February).

If you’ve not been to the presentation evening before, why not make it your first year regardless of whether you are new to the club or have been a member for several years. It’s a great social occasion, and a chance to dress-up, catch-up, eat, drink, dance, and of course see the deserving winners of the trophies receiving their trophies. We’ve been able to reduce the ticket costs this year, and it would be great to have a sell-out event. Follow the links in the Member’s Area to book your place!

The AGM is an important part of the year. Witham Running Club is a member’s club, run by members, for members. This is the one occasion where we ask members to come along and hear about how your club is run on your behalf. We’ve made a couple of changes from previous AGM’s. We’re now holding the AGM on a Wednesday rather than a Monday, and it will also be held at Benton Hall which will hopefully provide a better environment.

As part of the AGM, one of the roles for the membership is to elect the committee members for the coming year. A few of the current incumbents have decided not to stand for re-election, which means that we are looking for members to fill these roles. Indeed, all the roles are open for people to stand for, even if the current role holder is willing to continue in the role. The roles that we are looking to fill are:

·   Captain – we are moving away from having a specific male and female captain, so this can be filled by anyone regardless of gender.

·   Male Welfare officer – for logical reasons this must be filled by a male member.

If you’ve ever thought about getting involved in the running of the club (no pun intended!) then maybe this is your opportunity. If you are interested in either of these roles, or indeed any of the other roles, please let me know and I can happily share further information with you.

Thanks, Marc
