Summer’s here – nearly!

Well, at least it’s spring and as the chairman announced on Tuesday evening, there are only two more weeks before the eight month ‘endurance trial’ of running around the dark streets of Witham is over and the pub run season commences.

The venues and dates are set out below but first my usual mantra (aimed mainly at our newer members who have not yet been to a pub run but actually aimed at everyone!)

Apart from making a welcome change to the Witham routes pub runs also afford the opportunity to socialise afterwards (last years record for members staying for food was 44. Can it be beaten?) All pubs do food of varying standards and prices (usually very good) and it is hoped that you will support the pub if only by having a drink. Order and pay for food before your run.

Invariably parking space is at a premium so it is a good idea to car share. Please ensure that local residents are not inconvenienced – the good reputation of Witham RC is at stake! Many routes are well known but others may not be so familiar, especially to newer members, so it is vital that frequent turnbacks are made to ensure that nobody gets lost (it’s not unusual for some of our longer serving members to wander ‘off course’ either) so please take note.

You will see that, once again, The Willows in Cressing is the alpha and omega. On both visits it will be gloomy, if not dark, especially by the time some of the slower groups get back so don’t put the hi-viz away just yet! I expect that the chairman will also be wanting a sharp start so don’t be late.

This year we are using one or two new pubs and a return, after a few years, to one or two old favourites, consequently the number of ‘double visits’ has been reduced. Feedback is always welcome.

18th – The Ship, Heybridge Basin.
25th – The Bell, Feering.
August 1st – The Onley Arms, Stisted.
8th – The Old Crown, Messing.
15th – The Compasses, Gt Totham.
22nd – The Green Dragon, Gt Leighs.
29th – The Willows, Cressing.
