NESS XC R5 2026 – Results
16 February 2026 - By Jodee Mayer
Well, I don’t think a single person who rocked up at Gosfield School yesterday was not questioning their life choices… The field to get to the start was water logged and had turned to pure mud before the race even began, and as the sleet/snow started to come down I for one certainly wondered what I was doing…
Thanks to Colesy for being my token collector yesterday – after I let him go and huddle in the gazebo my frozen fingers dropped my clipboard twice so I certainly couldn’t have done it without him!
Also thanks to everyone that stayed to take the gazebo and table down and carry it to my car – I won’t list you all as I will forget someone but you know who you are (and to Wally and Andrew R for carrying it to the field… the gazebo has wheels, Andrew…) – I wouldn’t have been able to do it without you. It is all currently drying out in my garage but no guarantees it will be mud free before next week’s XC (see post for details).
Right, now onto the good stuff.
Team results
Well, we had an excellent turnout despite the abysmal conditions, and I expect that has contributed to our incredible results this week, with our men coming in 1st and our women coming in 2nd!
Just to give you an idea, there are 11 teams in the league and this week Witham runners were 20 out of 107 male finishers and 8 out of 56 female finishers. Even if you didn’t score for us, turning up and running may have meant you pushed another team’s runner(s) further down the results which means their score would have been higher. So thank you all for coming out.
This put us 1st overall this week, and 3rd in the league – just 1 point behind Ispwich and 3 clear for Springfield so all to play for in the last race of the season (did I mention to look out for the post).

Individual results
Excellent performances all round, but this week my mentions go to DJ who cut his hand on his spikes and still ran, Jamie Light who not only turned up very much on time but finished the race covered head to toe in mud after a fall with a smile on his face, and Sally who not only came 3rd woman, but do so with a black eye full of mud.
Just to say if you do not appear below and were about finisher position 67 please let me know – my fingers were too cold and my face too distorted for my phone to recognise them and so I couldn’t take my usual photo of our results sheets, and token 67 was unclaimed. Apologies if this was you, and do let me know so I can update Halstead.
