May CMOTM

24 June 2022 - By Jason Lilley

Club Member of the Month for May is Peter Coates, for breaking his own club marathon record at Halstead by over 2 minutes.  He came 4th, narrowly missing an individual medal, but earned a team bronze.  In training for this event Pete also broke the 20 mile and the 10k record club records which would be worthy nominations in their own right.  Pete recently returned to running after being pestered by a club member.  He works tirelessly to improve, has 3 young children and works an hour away from home and has shown true commitment to reaching the best possible performance.

We had a raft of other excellent nominations for May:

Ann Johnson – Even though Ann isn’t running due to injury she has turned-up at virtually every event to support the club and club runners.

Tom Warman – For completing the Stort 10, Paras 10 and the South Downs 50k all in the month of May. He completed the Angles 50k in the first weekend of June too!

Ben Roberts – For his first 100k Ultra marathon, following it up with a good race at Baddow the week after, where he gained great feedback for his support of another runner.

Terry Alabaster – Terry is averaging around 1 race per week and this included a 4:32:17 result at the Blackwater Trail Marathon.

Simon Cresswell – For a PB and Gold standard 64.59 run at May Day 10 on the back of a great 2022 so far including PB runs at 10k, half marathon & 20 Miles.

Kevin Slattery – For running his first marathon at Halstead which is a tough hilly course and it was on a hot day this year. His pace is almost back to his 2019 levels.

Clive Smith – After an excellent training block, Clive’s Brighton marathon didn’t go to plan and he was disappointed with his time (4.11).  Despite this, he picked himself up, signed up to Milton Keynes marathon within a week and then ran his first sub 4 hour marathon 3 weeks later.
