Magic Mile Night – Friday 30th instructions

27 June 2017 - By Steve Hennings

Friday 30th is our first Magic Mile Night at the Braintree Track. The event is open to all club members, including Juniors, who wish to toe the line and test themselves over this historic distance. If this one proves a success we’ll look to run another later this year, so don’t be downhearted if you can’t make it.

For those taking part please arrive at the Braintree track between 7-7:15pm to Register for your chosen race and get your number (if you have your John Roberts 5k race number please bring this along to re-use). The track is all booked, so just walk through reception towards the astroturf pitches, and then head over to the left past the main hall.

Once you’ve Registered you are free to go and do a few easy laps to start your warm-up.

Around 7:30 we’ll take you through some warm up drills and then the first runners will be called to the start line.

We’ll run up to 3 timed, mixed races of 1 mile (4 and a smidge laps of the track or 1.609km!). Race groupings will be based on your own estimated race time and we’ve provided some guidelines below based on your current 5k time:-

Race 1 – for those who’s 5K time is over 26:30, estimated race time of 8:00 or above

Race 2 – where 5K time is between 22:00 and 26:30, estimated race time of 6:30 to 8:00

Race 3 – where 5K time is between 17:00 and 22:00, estimated race time of 5:00 to 6:30

Expect there to be around a 5 minute break between each race for the time keepers to ensure the accuracy of the results, with full results announced at the end and posted on the Witham RC website the following day.

For those on Strava please remember to include #mymile in your run title. Further details can be found here –https://blog.strava.com/strava-mile/

See you at the track
