Halstead Marathon No 2 water station.

8 May 2019 - By Stewart Waller

It has and continues to be, a busy week for WRC volunteers with last Mondays May Day 10 and Thursdays John Roberts 5K in Kelvedon so it’s a huge thanks (mainly from Halstead Road Runners but also from WRC) to all of you who will be helping out at this coming Sunday’s Halstead Marathon (It’s not too late to volunteer and think of all those Club Championship points!) We are, as usual, operating the No 2 water station which is situated at the top of a long climb so our services will be appreciated by the runners twice as we are at approximately the 6 and 18 mile marks.

We will not only be handing out water and orange juice but also the runners personal drinks. As nearly always seems to be the case parking at the water station is a bit limited and as it’s location is not that easy to find can I suggest that we meet at Halstead Leisure Centre. I will be there at 8.30, all being well and leaving at approximately 9.15.The marshals car park is at the adjacent school in Colne Road (CO9 2HR). Just tell those manning the gate that you are helping. We can then car share to the ws. If you know where it is by all means go straight there.

As I have previously said it is an enjoyable day and apart from assisting our friends at HRR we can support our own members doing the race. The weather should be ok (dry, light breeze and 14 degrees) but come suitably attired and don’t forget your own food and drink and possibly a chair. We can expect to be there for about 4 hours.

Here is the current list of volunteers: Kerry Townsend, Simon Scott, John Lloyd, Louise Pascoe, Emma Austin, Heydon Mizon, Colin Short, Dave Andrews. More welcome if you can offer your time.

Thanks again and see you there.
