Results World Triathlon Championships Torremolinos
21 October 2024 - By Anita Grainger
Anita headed off to Torremolinos to compete in the world standard Aquabike championships . The event ran from 17-20 October starting with the age group sprint championships, junior, para triathletes on Friday, Age group standard and Aquabike and Elite ladies on Sat, rounding off with junior relays, age group relays and Elite men on Sunday.
Sadly two age group triathletes died during the sprint race on Thursday which sent a shock through the triathlon community and our thoughts are with their families at this sad time.
Anita competed on Saturday morning starting with a sea swim, run in and dive style , which was great fun followed by a long T1 with blue carpet treatment and a bridge over the road to run into transition and a 3 lap bike course with technical sections and speed bumps to content with on the motorway. Anita got caught in the swim at about 1km by the mens wave behind and had a bit of a fight on her hands. The T1 run was fun then she headed out onto the bike course which was busy and experienced some aggressive riding which was dangerous. She held her own and stayed safe coming in slower than expected on both the swim and bike enjoyed the experience and running along the blue finish carpet waving a GB flag. Time for a rest after a long tri season. Times and splits below
