25 May 2026 - By Natalie Lilley

Here’s this week’s round up – spanning races from Tuesday to Monday!

With the heat ramping up this weekend, some incredible running in tough conditions. I’m feeling woozy just sitting here typing them out 🥵

Harwich 5k series – race 2

A few more WRC runners at race 2 (although only one submission – thank you, Dawn!)

I still can’t claim to understand how this handicap system works, but here are the published results:

70 Chris Pugh 17:37.94 16:47.26 166
130 Chris Martin 18:51.96 17:25.94 124

Galleywood Gallop

This was a mid-week ETE self-navigation trail of approx. 5 miles. Well done to Vicky Riley, who finished 3rd lady, and 9th overall. And thank you to Steven for submitting, otherwise I wouldn’t have known about the event at all 😊

Position Name Time
9 Vicki Riley 0:45:20
78 Craig Vernon 1:01:22
108 Sian Tate 1:05:00
109 Steven Alder 1:05:02
110 Clarice Sanderson 1:05:04

Toppesfield 10k

And as I happened to be on the ETE website, I saw that they’d had another event this weekend – Angela and Andrew Read took on this trail 10k, both finishing in 1:31:46.

Bishop’s Stortford 10k

This is a new fixture, with half marathon and 10k options.

Ross Silverton entered the HM, but decided wisely on the day to drop to 10k due to the heat. Sadly this seems to have resulted in him being missing from the official results, but his unofficial finish time was 1:20 – well done Ross!

Blackwater Trail Marathon & HM

This is a Hare & Tortoise event starting in Chelmsford, following footpaths through to Heybridge Basin, where the half finishes. The marathon route continues along the Saltmarsh coastal trail footpath to Goldhanger before heading inland, finishing in Tollesbury.

The half was completed by:

Beth Pullen – 2:48:36

Chrissy Israel Jones – 2:48:39

Shane Ketteridge – 2:49:12 (Strava)

James Blackshaw completed the full marathon in 4:37:07, finishing in 7th place overall. Well done JB!

Edinburgh Marathon

We had 4 runners up in Edinburgh, who couldn’t escape the heat even that far North! Well done to all, including DJ completing his first marathon in 10 years!

Position Name Chip Time
293 Ian Cuthbert 03:12:04
1733 Jamie Light 03:49:24

Hatfield Broad Oak 10k

With this race not starting until 11am on the hottest day of the year so far, an impressive number of our members took to the course – well done to all, especially Sarah Scott, running her first 10k in 14 years!

I understand that some locals with hoses provided some respite, and also a number of WRC members volunteered at this event – well done to you too!
