NESS R2 – Hilly Fields 15/11/2026

The 2nd race of the NESS calendar will take place on 15 November 2026 hosted by Gt Bentley.

As always, some bakers would be appreciated and please message me if you can bake or buy some post run treats. I’ll be there to score.

Venue

The venue is Hilly Fields, Sussex Road, Colchester, CO3 3QJ.

Entrance to the start/finish is via the footpath from Popes Lane if parked at the multi -storey, or via Sussex Road if using roadside parking. SEE PARKING INFORMATION BELOW.

The juniors will race at 10am followed by the seniors racing at 10.45am.

The courses start and finish on the field beside Sussex Road with the race taking you through woods and on tracks and fields around the country park at Hilly Fields. The junior race is a single lap of 1.25 miles; the senior race comprises two laps of approx. 2.5 miles. A map is attached below.

Please note that Hilly Fields is a country park and runners may encounter members of the public who are also using the park. Please be respectful to anyone on the course.

Parking

Please can we ask that as many as possible car share as this will help to ease congestion in the area and ensures that everyone gets parked up conveniently.

MULTI-STOREY CAR PARK

The most reliable option to ensure a car-parking space is St Marys multi-storey car park, CO3 3AA .

This is about half a mile from the race start. Parking is £5 for three hours and payment is by way of card or MiPERMIT App. To get to Hilly Fields walk along the front of the building to Popes Lane and along to the public footpath (next to Top Field)

PARKING FROM SUSSEX ROAD (ACCESSED FROM LEXDEN ROAD)

There is also roadside parking available off Lexden Road. Depending where you park this will mean a 10 to 15 minute walk to the start field. Hilly Fields can be accessed from Sussex Road. Do not try to park on Sussex Road: we need this space to accommodate medical vehicles in case of emergency at the race.

If using roadside parking, please park considerately and ensure that all driveways are left clear and that traffic is not impeded. Please check parking restrictions, nearby options are:

West Lodge Road CO3 3NL;

Victoria Road CO3 3NT;

Creffield Road CO3 3JA;

SHEEPEN ROAD

Post code Sheepen Road CO3 3LL

Unlike previous years, there is only minimal parking on Sheepen Road. If attempting to park here, please only park along one side of the road to avoid causing road blockages.

Sheepen Road car park is also available. This costs £3.20 and can be paid for using the MiPermit app or via text message.

Toilets

Portable toilets will be positioned in Sussex Road. Note that facilities are restricted by the space available so please arrive as “race ready” as possible.
