Wow, a very hot weekend for running, and there were some hard races completed in that heat!
Halstead Marathon
WRC had a decent squad out at this County Champs fixture, and of course a fantastic cheer squad in the form of the WRC-manned/womanned water station. Well done to everyone who volunteered to stand out/dance in the heat all day!
The runners were in great form, in very tough conditions, with Witham winning the overall County men’s gold. 3 of our runners (Fiona, Leo, Claudia) had run the London marathon just 3 weeks ago. Well done all!

“The Lap” – Windermere
Clarice Sanderson and Lysia Jiggins took on this 47 mile clockwise lap of Lake Windermere. Lysia unfortunately struggled with the heat and wisely decided to call it a day after a gruelling 7 hours. Clarice, aka Baby Dragon, completed the course in 20 hours & 42 minutes, clocking over 9,000 feet of elevation. The race website describes the route as “47 miles of joy”.
Ultra Trail Snowdonia 100k
And if you’re not exhausted reading that, Harry Solomon was in Wales for this UTMB event “taking in countless stunning trails, technical ridges and epic views” with over 6,500m of elevation! Harry completed the course in 28 hours and 40 minutes.
King of understatement, Harry describes this in his result submission as “hot and hilly”.
Massive well done to all, including those that had to take the hard decision to DNF – rest up/rehydrate as applicable this week!
