Harwich XC results – mud, mud, glorious mud
16 November 2015 - By James Crisp
Race Results Marc writes “A brave 28 of club members travelled up to Harwich to run in the second race in this season’s XC league. I say brave because the Harwich course is widely accepted as one of the most challenging, if not hardest, of all the fixtures in our calendar. That said it’s not normally the case that the conversation was about whether any base layers were required at all, as 16 degree temperatures made for a warm race, especially for those who did have extra layers!
Despite the warm weather, a good sprinkling of rain on Saturday had prepared the course to be how we know it….muddy. Apparently one runner lost both of the spike plates from under his shoes, effectively just running in the uppers! Our very own Dave Smith ran the last mile with just one shoe, and I’m sure I was not the only one who will also have to rethink the fastening system for my XC shoes.
But the conditions were the same for everyone, and some of our runners had a fantastic run in the conditions. The combined efforts of the teams meant that both the men and ladies won, and therefore we took maximum points from the race to extend our lead at the top of Pool B. All the positions are in the section below.
A big thank you to all the people who bought post-race refreshments and to the others who were there taking photos, coordinating the result sheets, and providing support.
