Getting the right names in the lights

10 May 2016 - By Marc Underdown

With so many new members in the club, I thought it would be useful to re-post something to remind members about how to ensure I pick up all the right names for posting results.

As Fixtures Secretary it is one my roles to post the results each week. Race results are the payoff from all the training people do, so naturally I want to ensure that I publicise your racing efforts. There are certain races which are local or known to be popular with our members, and so I know to look out for these race results. However if you don’t select Witham RC when you enter I may still miss you from the results, so please try to enter with the club name.

In such a thriving club, I could never get to know when people do races which are further away, or are more unusual in their nature. Therefore I rely on you to let me know your results. If you want to get your results publicised on the website, included in the announcements on a Tuesday, and potentially included in the press articles, please try and let me know by midday on the Monday using the contact links from the website. Alternatively now all members have the ability to post articles, there is nothing stopping you posting your own report/result.

Unfortunately we are all prone to picking up injuries and having to take the difficult decision not to run in races we’ve already entered. However, an advantage of being in a running club is that it should be easier to find someone else to take up your place. It is important to notify the race organisers if you’re planning to take someone else’s place as the Race Director has discretion over whether entries can be transferred. I know there have been occasions where organisers have approved a transfer but the results still show the non-runner’s name. Therefore, when it comes to picking up the results, if I don’t know who was running I will list the wrong person. Therefore if you have swapped your entry, please try and let me know beforehand so that I can give credit to the correct person in the results!
