31 March 2020 - By Bill Smythe

“A good laugh and a long run are the two best cures for anything.”

I hope you and your families are all keeping well and are taking advantage of your daily exercise. I would like to say a big thank you to all our key workers who continue to work to ensure essential services are still provided to everyone and especially to our NHS staff who continue to do a fantastic job in difficult times.

Self Isolation & support

If you are in self isolation and need some support please reach out to WRC, I am sure all members would be happy to help. There is also a post from Jason and Jo, our welfare reps on the website

Social Distancing (SD) Champs

Thank you to Scott Darney and the coaches for organising these virtual races. The first race took place on Thursday 26th March with a massive turnout of 67 runners choosing a 5k route around their local area. Well done to everyone. Results are on the website.

Race 2 of the SD champs will be a 1 mile time trial staring on Thursday 2nd April.  Full details are on the website.

Photo Competition

Liz P and Jason L have organised a photo competition with the theme being “Nature” you can interpret how you wish. Photos to be uploaded to the post on the WRC FB page, one entry per person.  Full rules on the website. The pictures are starting to roll in so let’s get snapping.

Change to EA licence price

England Athletics have decided not to increase the cost of the EA licence as announced earlier in the year. We have therefore amended the price on the website for membership renewal to reflect this. I have emailed all those who have already purchased; thank you to those who have already responded.

Future Events

The committee still have some ideas up their collective sleeves to pull out over the next few weeks one of those being a virtual WRC Pub quiz. Watch this space.

Membership

The new membership year starts on 1st April.

I wish you, your families and friends the best of health and look forward to seeing you all soon.
