Essex Way Relay 2026 – Leg 5 Volunteers

2 September 2026 - By Steven Alder

Thank you to those of you who have signed up to volunteer. We’ve had some of our pruners already out on the course (thank you!) and another recce on Thursday (get in touch with Ian Lucas if you’re interested in joining).

For the Sunday itself:

Start Area – 12:00-13:15

The Start of Leg 5 from Cressing (CM77 8PQ – ///deflated.jingles.levels) is 12:45. We will be there from 12:00 to put up a few ‘Caution Runner’ signs, set up the start flag and make sure parking is done as considerately as possible. Once the runners have gone, you’ll then need to bring down the start flag and signs. If you’re doing the Leg 5 as your run for WRC feel free to also help!

Coggeshall Marshals – just before the A120 (12:50-14:10)

There’s a few arrow signs to put out due to a course diversion (Louis has these details) and then you’ll be handing out water and sweets and warning the runners they’ll be about to cross the A120. You are not required to stop the traffic, you are there to warn the runners of the busy road and to use extreme caution!

Finish Area (13:00-15:15)

For this area, we will be at the finish area behind The Chequers pub in Great Tey (CO6 1JY). We will be putting up the gazebo, finish area and cheering in the finishers. We will be recording the position they come in (not timed).
