Tri Results 21/09/24 European Triathlon Championships, Vichy

24 September 2024 - By Anita Grainger

Anita competed in the Sprint Triathlon in the European Championships in Vichy, France over the weekend for Team GB Age Group. (Swim 750m, Bike 20km, Run 5km). Having negotiated herself and bike box across Lyon by tram and train without taking out too many people she put the bike back together, familiarised herself with the location and did a reccie of the bike route and race venue.

Anita’s race started at 7.45am (CET) on Saturday just after sunrise, with registration and bike racking on Friday afternoon.

The swim was in the river Allier with a deep water start holding the pontoon, the water was a lovely 16.7 degrees. T1 (transition) was posh with blue carpet some of the way. The bike was draft legal consisting of  3 laps with pretty good turnaround points. Anita tried to catch a pack and then got caught and held onto others for some of the bike but ended up solo for the majority loosing precious time that would have come with drafting more. The run consisted of one lap looping round the venue area with a couple of twists and turns and a distinct lack of marshals just blue markings in places, pretty shocking for a European Championship. This didn’t deter Anita with decent splits in all 3 disciplines. Good result especially after whooping cough in May with lots to work on over the winter.
