Thursday nights efforts – The Orchards

2 July 2019 - By Emma Austin

Our session this Thursday will be at the popular Orchards location in Wickham Bishops.

This session is open to all, not perhaps those headed for the Great Bentley 5 the following night, if you haven’t tried a Thursday session this is a great location to give it a go and with others to help you enjoy.

Meet 1930 please in car park opposite St Bartholomew’s Church, Church Road, Wickham Bishops CM8 3LA where we are expected.

After briefing, warm up and drills, we’ll head off to The Orchards where our session will be an interval session around the two slightly differing distance loops we use of around 480M and 350M with differing standing recoveries between each one – this main part of the session will last for approximately 30 minutes.

Pacing guidance for the differing terrain of each loop would be around/sub 5k even pacing for both throughout the session, and we’ll have a few technical “skill” ideas for athletes to consider as well.

A sports watch with a stopwatch function should be enough to assist with the session – due to the approximate distance of each loop and differing recovery periods, this session may be a bit tricky to set up on GPS devices.

We’ll be running on public footpath areas within The Orchards, please be mindful and considerate of other footpath users. Terrain in The Orchards is grassy and at the moment, as with our Tuesday run from White Notley, usual road running shoes should be adequate.

The weather has been warm so please bring adequate hydration and a spare t shirt for after training as you will cool down quickly, its also highly recommended to cover yourself in insect repellent prior to the session and avoid luminous green tops to dodge the bugs!

Carina and I look forward to seeing you all then!
