Speed Development – Winter 5k On Thursday
10 February 2020 - By David Jobling
With the continuing fantastic WRC turnout for our Thursday sessions, your Thursday team are bracing themselves for a bumper field for our first Winter 5k in 2020.
It’s our usual long standing course – much improved (and faster?) where just resurfaced – around Freebournes Rd/Colchester Road/The Grove.
No prizes or trophies up for grabs, but a good opportunity for athletes to have a good shorter distance run out on the road and gauge where they are currently into 2020 for shorter distance events coming up such as the 5k Road Relays (still time to get your name into one of the many WRC teams for that), WRC Track 5k at Braintree, Little Bromley 10k & John Roberts Summer 5k Series which kicks off in May – all included in WRC 2020 Club Championship.
Meet please at Witham Leisure Centre 1930 and we’ll head off by 1945 latest.
For any headed directly to the start area, we’ll aim to meet at the junction of Perry Rd/Freebournes Rd around 1955 where athletes can prepare with dynamic stretches, drills and warm ups. We’ll just need to make sure we’ve got all names down for timing and get you started en masse a little after 2000.
Good idea to layer up and bring drinks for before/after – there’ll be somewhere for you to leave these.
As ever, such club events would not be possible without assistance from members so if you are able to help out for 30-40 minutes on Thursday then please let Sasha or myself know – many thanks in advance from both of us.
Sasha and I look forward to meeting up with everyone Thursday. DJ

Maybe able to marshal again but won’t know for definite until the day itself – would that be too late to confirm?
Thanks Hillary, we may be ok for marshals but let me know on the day if you can make it along, we can always use extra help.
