Return to some group running

Your committee have been meeting this week to discuss a return to group running whilst still following the Government guidance. England Athletics are supportive of a return to group running outside for groups up to a maximum of 6 people providing a risk assessment has been carried out.

So, risk assessment has been done and I am pleased to say we can return to some group running, but there are some restrictions.

What we can do

Run in groups of maximum 6 people outside
Run on quieter country roads or off road/trail

What we can’t do yet

Run in groups around Witham or other towns, so no organised Tuesday run yet
Start organised coach led training sessions – still virtual coaching sessions

Guidance – from risk assessment

Meetings arranged via Facebook or club website – please state pace, mileage, area, on or off road etc or just ask if anyone is running
Maximum of 6 runners maintaining 2m social distancing
Group leader required – give a safety brief before run
Runners must carry a phone
Runners to ensure someone in group knows their “in emergency” contact details
Runners should administer their own first aid where possible
Do not attend if you have any symptoms
If you develop symptoms you should make contact with anyone you have run with within the last 2 weeks – committee can help
Runners should travel in own transport and only with members of the same household
Try to have staggered start times if meeting in same general area
Front runner to give plenty of warning of hazards, having to stop etc to avoid close grouping
Do not share water or food
Do not run after dark
Follow good hygiene practice before runs – hand washing
Follow usual good practice on roads, keeping to kerb, care on blind bends etc

It is important the guidance is followed so members stay safe and we don’t help the spread of the virus. It will also invalidate the affiliated club insurance if we don’t.

A copy of the risk assessment is available. We will be reviewing the guidance on a regular basis so please feedback any concerns.
