Results w/e 28/11/2021

Halstead* XC – Race 2

Another amazing turnout for our second fixture of the XC season, with 54 runners turning up and putting in their all. This was proper cross country, with freezing temperatures, ankle deep mud, and undulating sections, meaning that everyone earned their cakes at the end (thanks bakers!). This race also awards the first male and females finisher with trophies, so well done to Peter Coates and Vicki Riley for winning the Peter Whiticker cup and Brian Wiley cup respectively. (So Peter won Peter’s cup, and Riley won Wiley’s cup…hmm, suspicious.). Also, another mention of Peter Coates outstanding performance in coming first overall. I watched him go off in 1st position right at the start, and from what I hear he was so far ahead at the end he sauntered in. Outstanding.

However, it is our efforts as a team which pushed us into joint 3rd position with Great Bentley, and it’s Bentley’s home fixture next time on the 12th December, so hopefully they’ll be using lots of their runners to marshal, and we’ll overtake them. That’ll learn ’em.

Benidorm HM/10k

Meanwhile, a world away from the brass monkey’s weather and mud covered trail shoes, we had three members in warmer climes taking on the Benidorm 10k and half marathon. Mark Lynch ran 46:24 and Dave Andrews ran 58:16 in the 10k race, while Graham Eyre finished 5th in his age category, completing the half marathon in 1:47:18. And from what I understand, the guys were consummate professionals throughout the entire trip and not a single glass on San Miguel was consumed.
