Passing of Malcolm Ball Ex WRC Member and club record holder

14 June 2020 - By Bill Smythe

Some of you may remember Malcolm who ran for Witham in the 1980’s. Sadly Malcolm passed away last Sunday. Message received below from his stepson.

“Just a quick note to let you know that unfortunately Malcolm Ball, who ran for Witham in the 1980s, still holds your 10K club record (50-54), and and who some of you may just still remember passed away last Sunday at the age of 86. Despite battling cancer for the last few years of his life Malcolm ran well into his eighties and I know (he was my stepfather) had many fond memories of running for Witham”.

So sad to hear this news, Malcolm had moved on before I joined Witham Running Club although I was fortunate to have the opportunity to meet him at races after that time, a lovely man and always ahead of me at any of those races, his age group 10k record shows what a fine athlete and competitor he was and will be a testing target time for our members. Very sad news. Malcolm was an inspiration to all in the club.
