John Roberts Summer 5k Series Race 3 Thursday

1 July 2018 - By Steve Hennings

This Thursday sees the third of our John Roberts summer 5k series. Held in Kelvedon with HQ at the Angel Public House, this 4 race series culminates in the prestigious 5k handicap race on 19th July.

Marshalls please arrive at 7.15 for briefing at 7.25

Registration will be from 7pm until 7.25pm with race starting at 7.45. Please bring some pins.

There are two trophies in both gender categories up for grabs: an award for the overall winner of the 5k series as well as winner of the final handicap race. Those new to running; the handicap system allocates a start time for all runners with the slowest starting first and the fastest starting last with the theory being everyone should cross the finish line at the same time. This levels the playing field in terms of ability and awards effort on the final race day. The first 3 races of the series are standard races, it’s the final race which is the handicap based on previous performance in the series as well as other races and other factors at the committee’s discretion.

To be eligible for the overall series winner award, you need to have raced at least three of the four races. Qualification for the final handicap race requires participation in at least one of the previous three races.

This series is always well attended so it will be great to see you all down there, new faces and old. Much like the Tuesday pub runs, a lot of us stay on after the race for food and liquid refreshments at the Angel. Please put your orders in at the bar for any food before making your way to the start line. The Angel provide a lot of support to the club so it would be great to repay this with a good number staying for a beer or some food.
