Great Yarmouth North Beach parkrun
8 July 2023 - By Steven Alder
Today, a group of Witham RC members met up at Great Yarmouth North Beach parkrun for an extremely tough parkrun on the sand. And wow did we struggle, but all of us are very happy with the times we achieved! We had a mixture of people going up the night before (some in beds, some in a tent – rumour has it some stayed out until 2am) and the remainder going up on the morning of the event. It seems like those who went the night before it took 2.5hours to get there, but those that left in the morning got lucky and only took 1.5 hours to get there.
There was a total of 8 of us from WRC at the event today, out of a field of 120 parkrunners, which was their 4th highest attendance. It was mostly made up of tourists, rather than locals, which was made up of us, a large group who came from Bristol who turned up on a 16 seater and others. Extra kudos to Andrew Read who tried to help the Bristol minibus, as they had “broken down” when they went to leave – their door wouldn’t shut!
A huge congratulations to Sam Hajder who came second overall! We also had one extra who is not shown in the results – Bevan the dog came along too! Here’s the results of us from the club:
Position | parkrunner | Time |
2 | Samuel HAJDER | 25:50 |
36 | Michael CONROY | 32:55 |
37 | Ian LUCAS | 32:59 |
47 | James COOCH | 36:12 |
65 | Andrew READ | 42:58 |
67 | Steven ALDER | 43:05 |
78 | Karen FLOWERS | 44:55 |
108 | Angela READ | 01:00:20 |
The full results can be found here.
We had an enjoyable coffee and sandwiches afterwards at The Amici, as recommended by Andrew’s friend.
I can confirm that we all beat the shark back to the finish line!
The photos from the day can all be viewed here.
Watch this space, we will be planning another parkrun adventure soon, all will be welcome!
