Essex Way Relay 3/9/23-final instructions

26 August 2023 - By Annalise Tye

First off, a huge thank you to everyone stepping up to run legs and volunteer, particular those being accommodating on what legs they can run.

Race numbers are Witham RC A – 52 and Witham RC B – 53. Please make your own number (this just needs to have the number on, i.e., 52 or 53) and ensure it can be seen at start and finish. Andrew Read has kindly done the hard work again and the numbers can be downloaded for you to print here – https://1drv.ms/f/s!ArFmoeWmtRPKhLEFGO0zSPZ_6rAS5g?e=RHiveY

On arrival at your start, find the leg organiser and get ticked off the start list.

Steven Alder will be coordinating our leg and will be team captain. If case of emergency or if you can’t finish your leg please let him know so the leg organiser can be made aware.

The Runners

If runners want to join the individual leg WhatsApp groups, you can text Sally on 07939 109444, stating the leg you are running.

The Route

If you haven’t and don’t plan to recce your route beforehand, at a minimum you should have the route printed or have downloaded the GPX file, as this is self-navigating and there aren’t marshals along the way. If you don’t have time to recce the route, don’t panic. There will be >100 runners so likely you’ll see other runners about (presuming they are heading in the right direction). Full further details, see the original post here: https://www.withamrc.org.uk/club-news/essex-way-relay-3-9-23-save-the-date-sign-up/

In case you’d forgotten, the start and end point are not the same. In terms of logistics there are three options:
1) Two cars, both of you on the same leg, one car at each end of the leg-the most commonly used practice. Liaise with the other runner and drop one car at the start and one at the finish (though that does mean you have to wait for each other).
2) For the shorter legs you could do an out and back to give you a nice long run.
3) One car which you are both insured on, and you do consecutive legs (ideal for couples/families)
