Ekiden 2023 – Information and Sign Up

17 April 2023 - By Jodee Mayer

Many of you will have seen the Facebook event for this year’s Ekiden Relay, an annual race held by Ipswich Jaffa. Originating as a popular race format in Japan, it involves each team of 6 people taking on legs of different lengths which add up to a marathon. One runner will tackle 7.2km, three will complete a 5km leg, and two will take on 10km legs.

Ekiden this year will be held on the 23rd July at the new venue of Ipswich High School, IP9 1AZ.

The course is off road, mainly on a flat lawn course.

There will likely be food (ice cream, we hope!) and drink on sale, and the day should be good fun with those team members not currently running being able to support and cheer on their teammates/club-mates throughout the race – we are told that the whole course should be within view of “base camp” this year.

The write up of the 2022 event is here for anyone not quite sure – it really was a great day!

We have reserved some teams based on the Facebook event, but need to confirm and pay for the teams. Therefore please complete the below form, with the category you will be in on 23 July (open is for women under 35 and men under 40 on race day) before Friday 09 June 2023.

If you do not have an EA licence, you can still run, but please add a comment below to advise of the same so that we can try to create the teams appropriately.

Let us know below or on Facebook if you have any queries.

Hi, I’m afraid I going to have to withdraw from this relay event due to knee injury flaring up. I’ve already warned my team so hopefully a replacement is already lined up. Andy White
