Club Member Of The Month

22 June 2021 - By Bill smythe

Congratulations to Heydon Mizon CMOTM for May 21.  Heydon broke two club records in May, running a 17:04 5km at Braintree track on 20th May, and a 2:45:24 (also a pb) Marathon in Boston Lincolnshire just a week and a half later.

It was very close this month with some great achievements and nominations.

Dean Whittaker – for taking part in his first marathon and finishing in 3:44.42

Andy Watson – for taking 16 minutes off his marathon PB at Peterborough marathon to finish in 3.53.30. He trained through wind, rain, hail, sleet, and snow and what an achievement when it counted. Very well deserved!!

Damien Walsh – For his half marathon pb at Boston in 1.17.55

Katie Layley– Since joining WRC in March, Katie has been a regular at Tuesday club runs and Thursday speed sessions. In May Katie got a 10k PB at the Colchester Stampede then, less than a week later, a new 5k PB at the WRC track 5k.

Suzie Lowe – Suzie is one of our newer members, having joined WRC in early 2021 after completing the virtual BD5. She has been running for a couple of years having done Couch 2 5K, and, showing her determination, completed it solo after the friend she was doing it with got injured. Suzie carried on running alone, both in the UK and (by her description) in the very flat Netherlands whilst living there for about a year. Despite half of her running life having been on the flats of the Netherlands, she can certainly run up a hill! She is determined to go further and to also get faster, regularly doing the WRC speed development sessions as solo runs or with Amanda. Determined to build up her distance around a busy life including 4-year-old twins, and ably assisted by WRC member and sister Amanda Martin, Suzie increased her distance to run the May Day 10 route on 02 May in an awesome 2 hours.

Bill Smythe – For Bill’s fantastic run at the Blackwater Trail Marathon in a time of 4.21.51 which placed Bill 4th

Scott Darney – Scott coached several WRC athletes to PB’s at the Boston Marathon and half marathon and whilst his own race didn’t go so well, he worked just as hard with the runners he coached.

Well done to everyone.
