Bosworth Middle Distance Triathlon

30 May 2016 - By James Montgomery

As a warmup to the iron distance Outlaw triathlon in July and my first triathlon in the v50-55 category, I took part in the first running of this event around Market Bosworth in Leicstershire. The lake in which the swim took place was interesting as it was full of carp – some quite monsterous!! Thankfully none of these came to check us out during the 2-lap 1900 meters swim!

A short run to t1 and on to 4 x 13 mile laps of the mildly undulating bike course, that had everything for the enthusiastic rider – inc some fun fast bits! Indeed, I was meant to treat this as training and started to get a little carried away at times!! However, course didn’t seem quite so “mild” by the time we got to the last lap, especially with a strengthening NE wind. It also got tricky at this point as there were 4 different length events going on at the same time with riders going at different paces! Into t2 and onto the run. For the middle distance event, this was 8 laps of a flat, completely off-road course around the lake we’d swum in and it was easy to spot the other “middlers” as everyone else had already finished!! The warm weather promised, never materialised and with a chilling wind it was good to finish and in a time way faster than I’d been aiming for!
