April 2024 CMOTM

15 May 2024 - By Steven Alder

Congratulations to our Club Member of the Month for April 2024 – Harry Solomon! Harry completed an 80k ultra (in Shropshire) in under 11 hours, and then represented WRC in the Essex Road relays the next day. He also completed the 28 mile “Camuplodunum” trail circuit around Colchester in the same month. Despite focusing on his own ultra-running goals, Harry has also actively participated in WRC events. His altruistic dedication to the club is commendable.

Well done, Harry!

Our other nominees for April were:

  • Simon Scott – For his time of 3:35:05 for his first marathon at Brighton on what turned out to be a hot and windy weekend. Consistent splits made for an impressive first marathon time.
  • Michael Conroy – For his efforts at the Brighton Marathon, finishing in 3:59:10 and getting a PB.
  • Rupert Bulgin – for completing not one but three big races – Saltmarsh half, Chelmsford Trifarm 15k (where he came 2nd) and a 50K Ultra in the Chiltern Hills – with emphasis on HILLS. Great results and great commitment!
  • Owen Dare – for achieving the elusive sub 3hr London Marathon – PB and club record – huge achievement.
  • Will Radley – for his sub 3hr PB at Manchester marathon.
  • Analyse Tye – for achieving an amazing 25 minutes off her marathon PB at London.
  • Amy Maleary – For her amazing PB of 3 minutes at the London Landmarks Half. All her training had paid off fitting it around Josh’s training for the marathon.
  • Nicola Digby – For her incredible 8 minute PB at the London Landmarks Half and for her achievement in being able to knock 8 minutes off her time each year at the same event for the past 3 years!
  • Jenny Layley – Other than not cancelling her ski trip, Jenny has been dedicated to her training for the London Marathon, keeping the easy runs easy and running in all weathers. Jenny and Max raised a huge amount (nearly £5k) for Age UK along the way and supported each other on the day.
  • Maxine Leech – Max has found her love of running again whilst training for the London Marathon, despite running in all weathers. Jenny and Max raised a huge amount (nearly £5k) for Age UK along the way and supported each other on the day.
  • Nick Bryce – Relatively new to running, Nick took to marathon training with gusto. It’s rare that someone needs to adjust their goal finish time to be faster than they hoped! Nick smashed half marathon and 20 mile races, and had an excellent debut marathon raising just under £6k for Farleigh in the process.
  • Bally Shina – An experienced long-distance walker, London Marathon 2024 was Bally’s first running marathon. A few niggles and injuries disrupted training a bit, but despite this with the help of kt tape, Bally finished the London Marathon
