A tale of three halves – weekend results
12 August 2018 - By Steve Hennings
Essex Cross Country – Hadleigh Park, Saturday
Ross Silverton was the lone WRC member at the 4th event in the series coming home in 1:01:21
Dyce Half Marathon
Dyce is the site of an early medieval church dedicated to the 8th century missionary and bishop Saint Fergus apparently, but its modern claim to fame is where Aberdeen Airport is situated. Sounds like a perfect place for a half marathon.
With a club member now living in that fine city, we sent David Stevens out into the Scottish rain to give the race a go, finishing in 6th place in a time of 1:24:37.
Newark Half Marathon
Dave Campbell had an early start to get up the A1 to Newark, in Nottinghamshire, as the 2nd of our hardy reporters to venture forth today. The early start was not well received by Dave’s legs but he still put in a good time of 1:24:04 coming home in 28th place.
Great Yarmouth Half Marathon
Rachel Sweatt went to darkest Norfolk for the Great Yarmouth Half in preparation for defending her county title at Pleshey in a few weeks time. Trimming a whopping 2 seconds (they all count) off her PB and Club Record, she was first lady home in a time of 1:21:55

St Albans 10k
A little closer to home, one of our newer members, Sandy Karl, headed off to St Albans for the 10k finishing in a time of 56m 26s
Run for Wildlife Trail Race
Given the disturbing story of baby squirrels chasing people down the street last week perhaps this event should have been Run from Wildlife?
We’re awaiting official times (especially as it looks like Andy White turned his Garmin off early in error) but we do know that Bill & Jo Smythe, Andy White and Mark Amner ran between either the 11.5 or 6 miles events in the warm and humid conditions.
Full results will be posted later
