Southend Half Results, the Hunt for Club Records continues and other weekend results

Conditions were kinder that usual for yesterday’s Southend Half marathon although a bit humid with some welcome rain at the finish. This opened the door to 6 new PBs and a club record from our WRC contingent who took part. The course is mainly a flattish double loop of the seafront from Shoeburyness up to the Sealife centre and back. There were numerous sponge and water stations along the course which were very welcome. Runners could see fellow runners going the opposite way along the seafront which made for great camaraderie. There were lots of crowds out who were very supportive and thanks to Graeme Roberts, Liz Stuckey and David Hunt who came out to support the runners today and snap a few pics.
Dave Campbell was our first man home in a new PB of 1:26:49 building on his impressive Brighton marathon performance in April. Our first lady home, Vicky Hunt, aptly named the pocket rocket, stormed home in a new PB of 1:36:20 having successfully hunted down Alex Stuckey and Bill Smythe along the way, picking up her 3rd club record for the year as her reward. The remaining records left are starting to shake with fear, will any be left by the end of the year?! Steve Watson ran an impressive race looking strong all the way to finish in a new PB of 1:32:21. Charlotte Elms continues to improve at an impressive rate knocking 4 minutes off her previous PB to finish in 1.47:22 with smiles along the way whenever we saw her. Louise Pasco and Karen Flowers also clocked up PBs and Sasha Rush successfully completed her first half marathon.

In other events Dawn Shilling took part in the Olympic park 10k yesterday achieving a new PB of 55.18, well done Dawn!
