May Day 10 – we need your help!

3 March 2020 - By Marc Underdown

If you have read a copy of my AGM speech, you will know that holding our races is an important part of our club. It both allows the club to make money which in turn means we can keep membership fees low, and also allows us to make donations to worthwhile charities.

But as you know, to host a race requires a lot of help. I therefore make my request for your assistance for our May Day 10 race on Sunday 3rd May 2020.

This year, we have the privilege of hosting the Essex Championship 10-mile race, and therefore this meets one of the criteria where we will allow our members to take part. It is therefore even more important that our members support this race. We are also expecting a sell-out, and therefore more runners than normal, which adds more pressure for many of the functions such as car parking, number collection, etc

We require over 60 people to take on the various roles to make sure that the race can go ahead and runners and spectators have a positive experience of the event.

The race starts at 10:00. The setup tasks require volunteers from 7:30, pre-race tasks will require volunteers from 8:00 / 8:15, the ‘during race’ tasks from 8:30, and the post-race tasks from around 9:00. Some tasks finish earlier than others, and so hopefully there is a range of tasks that will match your availability if you are only able to commit to some of the morning.

If you will be running, there are still some roles where you can help out, and we would also happily have the help of family members.

Please reply to this post or on the equivalent Facebook post. Please indicate if you have any time constraints for the day, and / or whether you have a preferred task.

If you’ve not volunteered before why not make this your first time, it is more rewarding than you think!

Many thanks, Marc (May Day 10 Race Director)
