NESS XC – RACE 1 – Writtle
Amazing turnout for our first NESS league fixture of the season, with 66 runners proudly sporting both the old and new black & gold kit. As you may have seen from Nat’s article, we clearly had the big guns out, as the women came 3rd, the men came 4th, which gives us an aggregate position of 3rd. Lets keep this going for the rest of the season.
Had a few conversations with people yesterday who seem to think that if they’re not part of the scoring team (first 8 for men, first 4 for women), then they don’t really have effect on the scoring. However, having done some analysis on the results, this is isn’t quite true. Sharon Read for example was our 10th Witham lady, but she finished ahead of both the 3rd and 4th placed runners (their scorers) for Harwich (who are in our pool), which means Harwich get more points, which is good news for WRC. Similarly, Tony Wallen was 17th for WRC, and finished ahead of Harwich’s 8th scorer, and therefore added to their points. So basically, even if you’re not one of the ‘big guns’, your efforts have an impact on how our score tallies against the other clubs.

Reading Half Marathon
Gerry Greenwold was at the Reading Half Marathon, and is going from strength to strength, finishing in a shiny new PB of 1:41:23. Great work Gezza!!
Nuclear Fallout
Dean Whittaker was at this event, basically an obstacle race that involves things called “the Deathslide” and “Trench Warfare”, and finished the 14k version in 3:34:33. Tremendous stuff Deano!

Thought for the week: “If Buzz Lightyear doesn’t believe he’s a toy, then why does he freeze like a toy when humans are around?”
