19 June 2026 - By Steven Alder
This week saw WRC members taking part in parkruns at Maldon Prom, Preston Park (Brighton), Highwoods, Highbury Fields, Markshall, Ingrebourne Hill, Delamere, Church Mead, Stawy Miejskie (Poland!), Harleston Magpies, Great Notley and Thurrock.

Starting at Markshall we had a lovely bunch of us there. Firstly, well done to Simon Handley for his 25 parkrun milestone. Congratulations, Simon! Joining him was Daniel Griffiths (24:01), Scott Townsend (25:51), Andrew Smith (27:53), Simon Handley (28:29), Karen Flowers (29:46), Liz Atkinson (31:36), Adam Regan (31:36), Nicola Digby (35:41), Kerry Townsend (38:43) and Dione Radley (38:49). We also had a great team of volunteers at Markshall: Marshalling was Patrick Hinchliffe, Ann Johnson, Shane Ketteridge and Lisa Leader, with Karen Flowers being a Car Park Marshal before running. Lysia Jiggins and Will Radley were scanning barcodes, whilst Mike Struthers was keeping an eye at the finish as the Finish Funnel Manager. Angela Read was Timekeeper as well as Volunteer Co-ordinator, while Andrew Read was the fabulous Run Director this week. Well done all!

Over at one of our locals, Maldon Prom saw Jamie Marlow (22:38), Dean Whittaker (22:45), Leo Cole (23:16), Andy Lager (23:32), Kevin Harper (26:02), Chrissy Israel-Jones (29:42), Ian Cuthbert (29:42) and Sue Shippey (30:42). Steve Hookings was a Marshal this week and Dean Whittaker was a Barcode Scanner once he’d finished his run. The Beazeleys were in Brighton this week at Preston Park, with Chris finishing in 27:38 and Nichola in 27:45.

Adam Hocken was back at Highwoods for the 27th time, accounting for just under 10% of his parkruns, and completed the course in 27:01. Dawn Shilling was in Highbury Fields in 31:47 and Ian Lucas completed a Greater London parkrun (although still in Essex) at Ingrebourne Hill, in 26:59. Nicholas Grainer was at Delamere for their 600th parkrun, completing it in 23:30.

Steven Alder was jetsetting again, doing parkrun Stawy Miejskie in Poland. He completed the course in 27:14 and then legged it to make it in time for his train (which was then 40 minutes late). Giles Sowerby was at Harleston Magpies in 19:06 as 1st VM45-49, whilst Lee Tooey was in Thurrock, running in 22:49. Karen Pickering was at Great Notley and did the course in 21:40. Finally, Geoffrey Reddin was touring to Church Mead this week, with a time dead on 27 minutes.
